About CBSM.

Carbis Bay School of Motoring was started in 1979 by me - Stephen Hodder. For nearly 30 years, I have been teaching local people in the St Ives, Carbis Bay, Halsetown, Lelant, Hayle and Penzance areas.

Throughout that time I have maintained a very high pass rate. While the national pass rate is 46%, CBSM achieves more than 70% - something which only 4% of instructors in the UK have achieved. These figures give some indication of the high standard of tuition you will receive.

Nervous students are my speciality. I have the ability to calm nerves and instil confidence while giving patient, detailed instruction. I also have experience teaching people with various disabilities, such as dyslexia and the profoundly hard of hearing, so lessons are tailored to suit individual needs and clients learn at their own pace. Teaching style is relaxed with a touch of humour conducive to enjoyable learning.

Many clients are now second generation, and from one particular family I have taught three generations. The five of them all passed first time. I now have well over a 1000 successful passes. Much of my work comes from recommendations.

I maintain a high professional manner at all times, and abide by the DSA code of conduct. I make every effort to be on time, and am reliable and dependable. I give good value for money. Many look for cheap lessons, but a professional service comes at fair price.

I offer refresher lessons, assessments, and advanced tuition, and defensive driving courses, as well as trailer and Pass Plus tuition (I am a registered Pass Plus instructor). I am a member of the IAM, RoSPA (gold standard) and the CAADI. I have a diploma in advanced tuition and work for the National Driver Improvement Scheme. I also do corporate driver assessments and training for Health & Safety.
